Help keep this history accessible

The Nat Turner Trail invites visitors to stand in the places connected to the 1831 Southampton Insurrection and learn about the people, events, and conditions that shaped it. Preserving these places and sharing their history takes continuing care.

Your support helps the Southampton County Historical Society maintain the trail, care for historic resources, and make this difficult chapter of American history accessible to future visitors.

What your support makes possible

  1. Care for the trail — Help maintain the interpretive signs and visitor resources that guide people through Southampton County.

  2. Preserve historic places — Support the ongoing care of sites such as the Rebecca Vaughan House, where visitors can connect the historical record with a place that remains standing.

  3. Keep the story available — Help students, residents, and travelers explore the history of slavery, the 1831 uprising, and its aftermath through thoughtful interpretation and educational resources.

  4. History needs careful stewards

The Southampton County Historical Society has brought together preservation, research, and interpretation to create the Nat Turner Trail. Continued support helps sustain that work as buildings age, signs weather, and new generations come to learn. (Nat Turner Insurrection Trail)

A gift of any size helps care for what has been preserved and keeps the opportunity to learn from it open.
